Dornoch Place Del Prado
VISITATION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Objective: To provide the Community, Residents, and Visitors guidelines and protect the right of our residents for in-person visitation under Section 408.823, Florida Statutes.
- Infection control and education policies for visitors: Visitors will adhere to source control measures and hand hygiene practices while visiting the facility as part of the facility infection control policy. Staff on duty will ask visitors to follow the visual alerts posted by the facility at the point of entrance demonstrating proper hand hygiene and source control. Infection control policies may require a visitor to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) in certain circumstances, including wearing a face mask and other necessary PPE, and performing hand hygiene. Staff will provide directions on the proper use of PPE.
- Screening, personal protective equipment, and other infection control protocols for visitors: Visitors who presenting with symptoms of a communicable disease will be screened to check their temperature. Visitors who are not essential caregivers and present with a fever of 100 F or higher or other symptoms will be asked to visit after their symptoms resolve to prevent the spread of the infection. This does not apply to essential caregivers, who can still visit.
- All visitors are encouraged to perform hand hygiene by use of hand sanitizer upon entering the facility. A hand sanitizer is available at the entrance at all times and is easily accessible to all visitors.
- This policy does not prohibit visits to Residents who are showing symptoms of or tested positive for communicable disease or being under quarantine. Visitors will be informed if there are any cases of positive residents of a communicable disease in the facility and if residents are being quarantined. The Community will provide the visitors with infection control education and PPE in accordance with the most recent CDC guidelines.
- If the visitor is seeing a resident who has been identified as having a communicable disease, the visit should take place in the resident’s room and the visitor should wear PPE. All PPE should be removed before the visitor leaves the resident’s room.
- Essential caregivers: A resident may designate a visitor who is a family member, friend, guardian, or other individual as an essential caregiver. The essential caregiver is not required to provide necessary care to a resident of the facility and Dornoch Place will not require an essential caregiver to provide such care. There are no restrictions on daily in-person visitation hours or time duration of visits for the essential caregivers.
- Length of visit: Dornoch Place does not limit the visiting hours or time duration for the visitations not imposed by the resident. Suggested visiting hours are 8 am to 9 pm daily. However, residents can have visitors at the facility 24/7 and 365 days a year as long as the visitations do not interfere with delivering care to residents and infringe upon the rights of other residents.
- Number of visitors: Dornoch Place does not have any limit set on the number of visitors to its facility. Residents asked to notify administrator if unusually large number of visitors, such as more than 6 persons, is expected to visit one resident at the same time so arrangements can be made to accommodate all visitors without interfering with caregiving and the rights of other residents.
- Vaccines and immunity: Dornoch Place does not require visitors to provide proof of any vaccinations/ immunization status or proof of immunity. Visitors cannot be compelled to show or provide proof of vaccination or immunization status.
- Physical contact: Consensual physical contact allowed between a resident and a visitor. Safety-related policies and procedures may not be more stringent than those established for the facility staff.
- The facility will allow in-person visitation in all of the following circumstances, unless the resident objects:
- End-of-life situations.
- A resident, who was living with family before being admitted to the provider’s care is struggling with the change in environment and lack of in-person family support.
- The resident is making one or more major medical decisions.

- A resident needs cueing or encouragement to eat or drink which was previously provided by a family member or caregiver.
- A resident, client, or patient who used to talk and interact with others is seldom speaking
- The facility may suspend in-person visitation of a specific visitor if the visitor violates the provider’s policies and procedures.
- Designation: The facility Administrator is designated as a person responsible for ensuring staff adherence to visitation policies and procedures. The Administrator will provide in-service education to all existing personnel at the time of implementation of this policy and to new hires during their orientation as one-time procedure. Administrator will monitor staff performance and provide additional in-services as necessary.
